Me again therapy
What is Hypnosis?
The dictionary definition of Hypnosis is a “Deep state of relaxation and concentration, often induced artificially, where the mind is more receptive to suggestions” Others would describe it as “An altered state of consciousness characterised by increased relaxation, focus, and suggestibility”
When Me Again therapy first began, 5 years ago. I would often explain it as “keeping the conscious mind busy while talking directly to the subconscious mind to make changes to habit, behaviour, thoughts, beliefs and emotions” However, as I’ve worked with more and more clients, I understand that everyone experiences hypnosis in their unique way. I don’t think it’s as simple as keeping the conscious mind busy as I believe that both the conscious and subconscious parts of your mind play a role in making changes and agreeing on a solution that aids your goal.
When I describe how Hypnosis works I describe fundamental parts of the issue or problem;
Habits and Behaviours - What behaviour do you experience that adds to the problem, avoidance can be a behaviour itself.
Thoughts, beliefs, and the language - you use either to yourself or in the stories you think about yourself.
Emotions - experienced such as fear, anger, frustration, anxiety, dread, and overwhelm.
Feelings - You might believe emotions and feelings to be the same thing but when I say feelings, I mean how emotions physically manifest in the body.
Often, when presented with these four elements relating to your problem, it’s clear how one or more of these elements are playing a part in the issue and maybe even the solution. For example, you may experience anxiety as overthinking, dread, loss of control, and very physically in the form of a panic attack. That doesn’t mean the other elements aren’t playing their part thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations may be a more dominant aspect of your anxiety.
As a hypnotherapist, I am always looking for great balance. Some might say that when you experience worry or overwhelm you are spending more time in your head, thinking and catastrophizing what could happen based on a fear or belief you feel. It could be as simple as learning some techniques that allow you to calm your mind and feel better connecting to yourself (including your body).
Where as others experience avoidance (habit) and the physical sensation (feelings) as several and visceral panic attacks. Meaning that more work is needed to calm that panicked part of you, to feel safe and in control and to be able to do everyday ‘normal’ things that others seem to find easy.
What is clear is that no two clients have the same experience, no matter how close their symptoms or stories match. That’s why at Me Again Therapy we cater 1:1 sessions to suit where anxiety, worry, or fear show up for you. Whether it’s driving anxiety, exam worries, a fear of flying, a fear of heights, bridges, receiving a blood test or even a visit to the dentist can be overcome using the wonderful power of hypnosis.
How can hypnosis Help?
I speak from experience as a client (P.S. it was life-changing, that’s why you are reading this website ;)) and as a hypnotherapist that hypnosis is a powerful therapeutic tool that helps you to access your subconscious mind. This part of your mind is where long-term memories are stored, along with emotions, feelings habits, and behaviour. By accessing the subconscious mind you can make changes to whatever part of your life (habits, thoughts, and emotions) which are no longer working for you.
I often hear people say "I know what needs changing but, I just can’t seem to make the change last". This is where Hypnosis excels. Through guided relaxation and visualisation techniques, hypnotherapy can help you to;
Change your focus – Rather than focus on what isn’t working or you can’t do. You get to make time, space, and the energy to focus on the goal. What is the ultimate goal you want?
Reframing unhelpful or negative thoughts or beliefs – Hypnosis helps you to make changes to old and unhelpful thoughts or beliefs you have about yourself, just like updating your software on your phone or laptop. You get to download new information for who you are now, not who you were when you were 12. The progressive relaxation you experience during hypnosis helps you to switch off your mind (that over-analytical part of you) so that you can resolve what your mind keeps circling back on.
Heal past trauma – trauma big and small can continue to negatively impact our hopes and dreams. You may very well remember the time everything changed and yet still have no power over making the right changes for you to overcome your fears. Or, you may have no understanding of where it comes from (but your subconscious mind knows, as it is always watching and always pays attention) Something seemingly insignificant could have happened in your past however, that doesn’t mean that your subconscious mind didn’t take note and has been doing something every day since to help you. The problem is that it might not be helping you. It may have been in that split second 10 years ago but it didn’t get the updated memo so it’s as simple as it’s working to the old plan. Hypnosis helps you to process these emotions, trauma, or events so that you can move forward without the old negative impact. You get to update your subconscious mind to who you are now and who you will be in the future.
Reducing the physical symptoms of the problem – Hypnosis is a way to relax the body and mind. You get to use it as a tool to calm anxiety, panic, and fear so that you can feel in control driving, having a challenging conversation, climbing a ladder, or having blood taken.

Client Stories

Online Anxiety Support
Jodie worked well with me to establish what I wanted to get out of the sessions and what my goals were. I was initially a little hesitant about the support being offered online rather than face to face but receiving support in my own home in a room that I feel comfortable in was really relaxing. Jodie was very easy to talk to and feel comfortable with.
As the sessions progressed, new challenges and anxieties appeared in my life and Jodie was able to make changes to the sessions to deal with new challenges I was facing. I found this useful and feel that I am now in a much better place, both at home and at work.

Anxiety Management
To anyone thinking that they might benefit from this support I would highly recommend hypnotherapy as an alternative therapy. It has given me tools to manage my own anxieties better and given me confidence to feel that I can manage any other challenges that I might face more successfully.
My partner has commented throughout my hypnotherapy journey that he can see a change in me and can see me being more able to manage my own anxieties better and have been calmer and more relaxed both in and out of work.

Anxiety/Confidence Client
Well what can I say? It’s been an interesting journey that I have been taken on. I can’t say that I 100% believe that it’s worked but then in the next breath I feel a lot calmer in stressful situations. The feeling of hypnotherapy was one of pre-sleep for me, I could fully hear everything that was being said and react when asked, I was aware if I wasn’t comfortable and could readjust myself if needed but didn’t quite find in necessary. I would be relaxed in my chair listening but feeling a calm but heavy feeling in my body which prevented me from moving or wanting to move. All very unusual but you get used to it very quickly.
Jodie spent time explaining every aspect of the journey and recapping the following week. She has made me look at situations differently and even provided me with self help that I can share with my family too.
I went into this experience open minded but with the thought in the back of my head whether or not would it work. I can categorically say ‘well something did!’
I would highly recommend hypnosis for people that want to explore their options of self help without medication.

Work Anxiety Client
I have just completed my hypnotherapy sessions with Jodie at Me again therapy and I have loved and looked forward to every single session.
Each week the sessions have each got better and I have learnt various techniques throughout which I have used over the past weeks and will continue to use in the future.
Today was my last session and even though I am disappointed that I will not be seeing Jodie during weekly as I have enjoyed them so much, but I am so proud and thankful of the progress that Jodie has helped me to make.

Anxiety/Confidence Client
I had anxiety which was a lot bigger than I even knew! I chose to go to Me Again Therapy as a friend recommended it to me.
I honestly don’t know how the problem was solved. I think it was through working on my self belief but also changing the images in my head and being in control of my thoughts. The sessions were all very unique and tailored to me.
To summarise my experience as a whole would be mind blowing, sometimes I reflect on how far I have come and can’t even remember most of my anxieties. I would definitely recommend Me Again Therapy and already have! I didn’t know it was possible to reduce my anxiety so much.

Loss of Control Client
I had an overwhelming sense of being lost, and completely out of control, the only way I could describe the way I was feeling was SAD. I looked okay and I'm sure my work colleagues would have not been able to guess how I was feeling as I put on my happy mask every day, although that seemed to be getting harder and harder.
I was recommended Jodie as someone who could help, I was a bit sceptical, would this work for me. I had tried hypnotherapy a few years back, so why would this be any different, however I had nothing to lose.
The session provided me with a safe space to talk about the issues I felt I had. Jodie has a beautiful, kind way of asking questions about the messages we all tell ourselves every day, I did not feel judged or patronised, it was just a conversation. Which identified areas which Jodie picked up on and tailored each session accordingly.
This experience, I feel, has made me feel more positive about myself and enjoy feeling like me again.
